First days in Trondheim
We moved to Trondheim, Norway at the beginning of this year (as you might already know from my Instagram stories!). People thought we were crazy to move up here in the middle of winter. We, the flag-bearers-of-optimism, decided to do it anyways. I mean if you think about it, it was just going to get better from there!
Well, there is always that one red house!

Yes! I am in love with my apartment here. It is definitely not the cheapest apartment in Trondheim but it definitely is the best value for money. I mean, can you really put a price on waking up to these views every morning <3
Only problem? We could not enjoy them for long on dark winter days 😀 There were some weekend mornings (late mornings to be fair) when we had daylight for two hours before the darkness covered the city again. With a fresh snow powder outside, fireplace in our living room and the twinkling night views of the city from our window, I didn’t really care! For the first time in my life, I understood what being cozy in winters really mean.
Norwegian-ing around
While gasping at such views and eating brown cheese and waffle seemed Norwegian enough for me, we still tried to do one more, very Norwegian thing. Yes, cross-country skiing! And by trying I mean, my friends were nailing it, Kshitij tried it and I was walking next to them on my human feet, without any kind of skies or raquettes attached to them! But I did have waffles and coffee in the end. It counts, right?

After such a nice day, we planned to go on a non-planned road trip next day. I mean, why wouldn’t you go driving around one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. And the views were epic!

We don’t do road trips. It is not much of our choice since we don’t drive. I know, I know! We are one of those people! Having this flexibility to stop your car every now and then and just take everything in, for the first time in my life, made me realize that maybe it won’t be that big of a waste to learn driving now. What do you think?
Birthday weekend in Oslo
And then it was March already which means, it is my Birthday time and we decided to take a short weekend trip to the capital, Oslo.
We had a very cold weekend in Oslo. Really cold I mean. The river that runs through the city was frozen. Since it was so cold outdoors, we knew how we would make the best of our time in Oslo: Museums! And thankfully, Oslo has some epic museums. Be it the FRAM museum, Viking ship museums, Kon-tiki museums or city museum, they are all amazing and I highly recommend visiting them! And yes, there will be a detailed post coming soon.

And now we are back to Northern lights
Well, while everything has been more than amazing in last few months, the cherry on the cake has to be the amazing aurora show outside our window!
We have been chasing Northern lights for a long time. We went to Iceland for our honeymoon in the middle of winter (We do have a special connection with winter and frozen landscapes). But no luck!
Fast forward to two years later…
The first time we spotted the northern lights was the same day we went on the road trip with our friends.
I have to admit that they do not appear this majestic and green to made eyes. The camera lens can definitely capture them better! But again, only if you know how to catch them. I took my time learning it. You can already see the first picture below. Very blurry!

But again, learning seems to be my full-time job and I kept trying, whenever I got the chance (not very often).

When is the best time to spot them?
While most people think winters (December/January) are the best months to spot them, it is not really true. Since it snows most of these months, the sky is just not clear enough for the magical show. We saw the best shots in March and April. But again, we are in Trondheim, which is almost in the middle of Norway (on the coast). If you go higher up (Tromso for example), you might have better chances to spot them. We were just unlucky to not find them in Iceland in winters two years ago!
Do you know what is the best part? We can spot these magical streaks directly from our bedroom window. No need to got out freezing in the cold!
So basically, last few months have been a blast! Now that winter has officially taken a sabbatical, daylight is gracing us with its presence almost the whole day. We have seen some extremes in Trondheim already. From a very few hours of daylight (winters) to almost no night (getting closer to the midnight sun)! The city is getting greener every day and feels like a different city altogether. How do we like it? You will know soon in another upcoming post 😉
